(I asked Glenn "What is art?" & "Who is an artist?" This is his emailed response. -PJM)

artists are people that work from what is and re-form it.
if it is done well, it is convincing in a substantial way as opposed to simply an intelligible/logical/appealing way.
it is selfless and not concerned with self expression.
artists are facilitators.
art hurts, soothes, perplexes but always seems necessary.
art is not friendly to weakness and avoidance.
art is supposed to take you towards, not away.
art is not at it's best when used for entertainment.
that we shall term "disrespect".
fun takes the air out of art and re-routes it, with the misusage of fear being it's guide.
artists simultaneously reveal their brilliance and ignorance, and are not afraid to do so.
artists are okay with being misunderstood, but don't intend to be misunderstood.
artists understand how to make superior form.
true artists are not competitive; they are immersed/submerged in the wet and the thick and are thus protected from such common human needs.
art is accurate and precise.
art is a symptom.
agreement does not make art more meaningful.
art is like a tree.
art requires vision, overview, the fine cultivated quality of paying attention.
art's purpose is buried deep beneath "cultural neediness".
art is not voted on by a committee.
art is mediated at it's core by the need for base reward.
everyone is not an artist; everything is not art.
artists don't refer to art as a lie.
artists can recognize each other.
artists are not imposters.
artists don't need a cultural audience.
culture is a vulture...it eats but doesn't feed.
art does not have to participate in "the discourse".
art is like the lean person that is shockingly strong.
art doesn't have to be "stuffed".
artists don't have to try to think up a good idea.
artists are always at the verge of extinction, but never become extinct.
artists chuckle at other artists and wish they could help.
artists are not self-destructive.

watch and live, pay attention, do what you can.
give it a real try.
fail rather than feign.
